Shopping Trip to Target and Chilling By the Pool
Yesterday was what I would call an ordinary day, simply chilling by the pool and then grocery shopping for healthy vegetarian and protein rich food. One of the selling factors of moving to our current home is that it has an amazing pool setup. There is a large pool for adults who like to swim plus two wading pools for the kiddos, and off to the side a hot tub! Since I’ve yet to invest in a bathing suit, I decided to sit and work on Mother Teresa while I watched the kiddos play. Last week, the apartment complex set up a TON of new lounges, umbrellas, and poolside furniture so I was perfectly content under the shade of my umbrella and taking advantage of the new comforts.
Before we hopped in though, we made a quick trip to Target, love that place, and bought a cute swimsuit for Miss A and some water guns for Master A. Buying her a suit was a task and a half because Miss A has a decided opinion on what she likes to wear and I did not like the one she chose at all. In the end we compromised as I got the one with the rashguard option and she picked out a cute headband . I almost always use the self checkouts and as I was scanning my items up marched a Target employee with a basket full of bunny ears and asked Miss A if she wanted one. Ugghh…but why??? So of course I couldn’t be bad mommy and Miss A added a cute polka dotted bunny headband to her total. Thank God it was only a buck more.
I also got sucked in at the cheap section, where everything is $1, $3, or $5 and picked up a darling wooden container to add to my garden on the deck. So we went in for one thing and left with, well decidedly more than one. Thanks Target, did I say love? hate that place. 😉
Rest, Recover, and Rover Time
After the pool, it was bathtime for both of the kiddos and Miss A was down for a nap, hallelujah. I try to use this free time to work on my blog, clean and such but about an hour and half later one of Master A’s friends came over with his dog Pepper. Miss A had been begging to play with the puppy for days so against my mommy instincts I woke her up. She was immediately bright eyed and eager when she heard she could play with Pepper. It was hysterical watching her try to lead the dog around as the dog clearly led her.
Grocery Shopping for Healthy Vegetarian Food
Then we loaded up again and it was off to the grocery store in search of protein rich vegetarian food. Part of taking back my life is is cleansing my life physically. Hence I’ve been trying to eat in a more healthy manner. It totally helps a lot that my hubby is also interested in eating in the best way possible. Currently he is on the vegetarian diet, which I’ve been really interested in trying myself as I can barely eat meat. So he wrote up a list of high protein grains, beans, and greens for me to make grocery shopping much easier. I decided to go to H-E-B as I knew they had a healthy section catered towards a consumer like me. By the way, if you’ve never been to an H-E-B they are pretty awesome with a ton of variety to choose from. Our particular one has a deli with rows of delicious cakes including Tres Leches, a local favorite. It also has two cooking sections set up where you can watch a chef make fresh sushi or sample meatball, spicy shrimp, Thai peanut salad, or whatever they are cooking up that day. In a third section you can sample hor d’oeuvres and learn which wine to pair with them. My favorite section of course, and where I also discovered my favorite wine so far!
In the middle of the health food section are their bulk foods which is where I was able to find lentils, multicolored quinoa, and organic steel cut oats. I made sure to take a picture of each label so I would know exactly how much protein I would have per serving. They also have quite a display of amazing teas, the real stuff with whole tea leaves, pieces of fruit, flowers, spices, etc. depending on the type. I ended up choosing an almond creme tea, falling in love with the nutty and vanilla undertones. I was also able to find some organic oatmeal raisin chews for snacking, some of which Miss A promptly ate as she was getting cranky. Then because we were all extremely hungry, I grabbed some shrimp and imitation crab sushi which we devoured greedily at home. The ginger accompaniment was so delicious but I refused to touch the wasabi. I really don’t understand how people eat it, it’s so spicy to me and I hate the actual flavor. Then it was cleanup time, working on my blog, and hitting the sack. I’m exhausted writing this, so good night you all!
Sincerely Mrs. G
